Ficino and Michelangelo

Marsilio Ficino

Marsilio Ficino (1433-1499), an Italian philosopher, led the Renaissance revival in his country, a movement which reached its artistic zenith in the sculpture and painting of Michelangelo, He wrote of lifting the human spirit to a communion with Plato's forms.

Michelangelo

Michelangelo Buonorotti (1475-1564) was the greatest artist of the Renaissance and one of the very greatest artists of all time. He was also a poet and a thinker who greatly admired the philosophy of Plato. His sculptures--the David and the Pieta especially-- show clearly the influence on his work of the sculptures of Ancient Greece.
